The Bouncer's Bible

I recently read a book by a man named Ivan Holiday Asenault, also know as Doc Holiday. The book is entitled "The Bouncer's Bible: The Art and Science of Working the Door". If you're looking for a book that will teach you 7 quick moves to disable drunk patrons, how to lay the beat down on 2 to 3 guys at a time without spilling your drink, or ways to look and act so intimidating that no one will want to make eye contact with you, then don't buy this book.

On the other hand, if you are a bar or nightclub owner and you want a bouncing staff that is effective and good for business, then this book has got some information you need. When it comes to security, or bouncing, as Doc explains in his cut to the chase style, there are a couple of routes a club could go. There are those big, ugly dudes that stand around with their arms folded, waiting to kick some butt, drink your profits, or pick up women. On the other hand, there are professionals who take their role as a bouncer as a career and conduct themselves in a way that is beneficial and profitable to both themselves and their employer. Enter Doc Holiday.

Doc Holiday had been in the nightclub security profession for 16 years at the time the time of the book's publication. He's developed a style that uses intelligence over muscle. Don't get me wrong, when the time comes for muscle, he has stories to share in that arena as well. The primary objective of the book illustrates how to conduct one's self in a professional manner and demonstrates how this produces a winning situation for the bouncer, the club, and the patrons as well.

Doc provides his prospective on the industry, types of clubs, patrons, types of people a bouncer may be working for and with, as well as tips on handling yourself in a variety of scenarios. The book covers the importance of a club with multiple bouncers working as a team, use of technology, laws, and finally wraps up with "The Ten Commandments of Bouncing."

It's been said that if you want to achieve success, the shortest path is to model someone who is successful. If you want a successful and professional security staff, Doc Holiday is your model.
